On September 7, the 48th Annual Ag Boosters Barbecue took place at George’s River Ranch, bringing together community members, growers, and supporters of the Ag One Foundation and California Women for Agriculture (CWA) to celebrate a shared commitment to California Agriculture.

A Legacy of Support and Tradition

For nearly five decades, the Ag Boosters Barbecue has been more than just a gathering–it’s a testament to the enduring support for agricultural education and the future of California’s farming community. Over the years, the event has raised more than $1 million, funding scholarships and programs that empower students within the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at Fresno State.

Lorna Roush, Ag Boosters BBQ Committee Member and representative of California Women for Agriculture, shared her perspective on the event’s significance:

“This event is a celebration of our agricultural roots and a commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders in the industry. It’s heartwarming to see the community come together year after year to support the cause.”

Celebrating Student Achievements

The barbecue showcased the talents of Fresno State students, featuring farm products they’ve grown and produced. Guests enjoyed a variety of award-winning wines and locally grown produce, providing attendees with unique locally made items.

Beth Kuhn, Program Specialist at the Ag One Foundation, emphasized the importance of such events:

“The Ag Boosters BBQ is a vital part of our fundraising efforts and truly reflects the heart of Fresno State agriculture. Not only does the event support Jordan College students, it also highlights their hard work and dedication. Over 50 students joined us to volunteer this year, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for our stakeholders to engage with them in-person.”

Engaging Auctions and Raffles

The evening featured silent and live auctions, offering guests the chance to bid on vacation getaways and specialty items unique to the event. The highlight of the night was the drawing for the Ag One “Fantasy Vacation” raffle, where the winner selects from various dream destinations.

Looking Ahead

Since its inception in 1979, Ag One has awarded over $11 million in scholarships to approximately 5,750 students – which is directly supported by the Ag Boosters BBQ. The funds raised by the event also continue to support the mission of California Women for Agriculture and provide many students scholarships annually, furthering their commitment to telling the story of California agriculture through education and legislative programs.
